If you’ve recently upgraded your bedroom set, you’ll soon search for old mattress disposal options in Northwest Arkansas. In this post you will find helpful information on mattress disposal as well as links to some important state regulations that you’ll need to keep in mind.
YOU CAN REUSE YOUR OLD MATTRESS
If your old mattress is still in good condition, maybe you or someone you know can reuse it. When it comes to how long a mattress should last, that’s up for debate. The Spruce reports:
“Different mattress types also have different expectations when it comes to effective lifespan, but opinions vary, depending on who is providing the rating. Predictably, organizations serving the mattress industry suggest replacing mattresses rather often, while other studies show that some good quality mattresses can last 15 years or even more.”
Many factors can influence the lifespan of your mattress. If you decide to reuse it, you may choose to move it to a guest room or gift it to a friend in need. YOU CANNOT SELL OR DONATE USED MATTRESSES
In years past, donating or selling your gently used mattress was an option that many people chose. This is no longer an option.
Effective December 1, 2014, The Arkansas State Board of Health states:
“A person shall not sell, offer for sale or include in a sale any article of secondhand bedding or any article of bedding manufactured in whole, or in part, from second-hand material, unless such bedding has been cleaned, stains and odors removed and germicidally treated by a method approved by the Department.”
Sanitation concerns and the risk of bed bugs are too great to make selling or donating second hand beds a safe option. Given the state regulations against the resell of used bedding, mattress donations are no longer accepted at local thrift stores.
THERE ARE NO FORMAL MATTRESS RECYCLING PROGRAM IN NWA
While online resources may list mattress recycling as an environmentally responsible option, there are no formal mattress recycling options in Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, or Bentonville.
